The Kano State House of Assembly has approved the establishment of 2nd class Emirates in the state, after passing a bill into law. The bill had undergone the first reading before a recess and was subsequently brought up for the second and third reading during the latest session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore.
The newly created second-class emirates will include Rano Emirate covering Rano-Bunkure, and Kibiya; Karaye Emirate comprising Karaye-Rogo; and Gaya Emirate encompassing Gaya-Ajingi, and Albasu. This development comes amidst a two-year-long Emirship dispute involving Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero contesting for the position.
