Japan seeks backing to revive nuclear reactor in Niigata

The Japanese government is seeking understanding for the restart of Tokyo Electric Power Company Holding’s (Tepco) Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant in Niigata Prefecture. An official from the industry ministry emphasized the importance of ensuring a stable energy supply to support the economy during a meeting held in Nagaoka.

The meeting, organized by the prefectural government at the ministry’s request, provided local residents with the opportunity to learn more about the planned reactivation of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa reactor. Approximately 120 locals participated in the session either in person or online.

As discussions around the use of nuclear energy for power generation continue, it is essential for all stakeholders to come together and share their perspectives. The government’s efforts to engage with the community reflect a commitment to transparency and public involvement in decision-making processes related to energy policy.
