German energy giant RWE AG has secured over 619 million euros in funding from the German federal government and state governments for two major hydrogen projects. The funding will support the construction of a 300-MW electrolyzer in Lingen, Lower Saxony, as part of the GET H2 Nukleus project, and a hydrogen facility in Gronau-Epe, North Rhine-Westphalia. Additionally, a consortium including RWE will develop a 100-MW electrolyzer at the port of Rostock under the HyTechHafen Rostock project.
The federal government will cover 70% of the funding for each project, with the states contributing the remaining 30%. RWE’s investments in these projects, recognized as Important Projects of Common European Interest, will help reduce carbon emissions and advance the hydrogen industry. The Lingen site aims to install 300 MW of hydrogen capacity by 2027, while Gronau-Epe will develop hydrogen storage facilities. The HyTechHafen Rostock project will produce green hydrogen to supply local consumers and feed into Germany’s hydrogen grid.
