Is Trump in the crosshairs of Iran? The Mullah regime is reportedly planning to kill former President Donald Trump (78).
CNN reports, citing multiple informed sources, that US authorities have received information about the assassination plot in recent weeks. As a result, the Secret Service has increased security measures around Trump.
However, sources suggest there is no evidence linking the attempted attack by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks to the Iranian plot. Nevertheless, the new information raises questions about security vulnerabilities at events.
The Secret Service has repeatedly warned Trump and his campaign team against holding outdoor events due to higher risks, albeit in a general nature. Trump’s press team did not comment on security measures, defer to the Secret Service.
Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed to CNN that “additional protection resources and capabilities” have been provided for Trump.
Iran seeks revenge for Soleimani’s killing.
Since the death of Qasem Soleimani (†62), the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, in January 2020, Iran has repeatedly vowed revenge. Former high-ranking Trump administration officials have had tight security measures since leaving office.
▶︎ In August 2022, the Justice Department charged a member of the Revolutionary Guards with allegedly planning to assassinate John Bolton (75), Trump’s former National Security Advisor. Prosecutors said the plot against Bolton was “likely planned as retaliation” for Soleimani’s killing.
▶︎ Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is also said to have been a target of the Iranian assassination plot, according to a law enforcement source and a source close to Pompeo.
Law enforcement authorities have been concerned for months about the ongoing threat from Iran, which may be attempting to assassinate former Trump officials and the ex-president himself, according to CNN.
