Due to weather conditions, including extreme heat, delayed rains, and deluge in some areas, the prices of staple vegetables like onion, potatoes, and tomatoes have doubled. A recent LocalCircles survey revealed that 71% of household consumers are paying Rs 50 per kg or more for tomatoes.

71% Pay Rs 50/kg Or More For Tomato

The survey identified that 71% of households are spending Rs 50 per kg or more on tomatoes, with 18% paying over Rs 100 per kg. Additionally, 20% of respondents bought tomatoes for Rs 75-100, while 33% bought them for Rs 50-75.

Weekly Vegetable Spending Increased by Over 50% For 34% Consumers

Over 60% of respondents mentioned a more than 50% increase in their weekly vegetable spending compared to the months of April and May.

The survey gathered over 41,000 responses from households across 393 districts in India. It highlighted the challenges faced by consumers due to rising vegetable prices and weather conditions affecting crop availability.
