Commemoration Ceremony for Turkey’s Defeated Coup Attempt
The Turkish Embassy in the US hosted a ceremony to mark the eighth anniversary of the 2016 failed coup attempt in Turkey. Turkish Ambassador to the US, Sedat Onal, highlighted the treacherous nature of the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) and their attempted overthrow of the Turkish government.
Onal emphasized the resilience of the Turkish people in defending democracy and called for US cooperation in bringing FETO members to justice. The event also featured messages of solidarity from Muslim American organizations and US Congressman Pete Sessions and Jack Bergman.
The coup attempt orchestrated by FETO and its leader Fetullah Gulen resulted in casualties, and Turkey continues to seek Gulen’s extradition from the US. The ceremony honored the bravery of those who stood up against the coup and emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles.
