Ministry of Foreign Affairs rejects use of Serbian helicopters

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Minister Elmedin Konaković, has denied the request for the engagement of helicopters from the Republika Srpska (RS) for assistance in extinguishing fires in Herzegovina. Konaković stated that the Ministry does not have the authority to approve such requests and has forwarded the matter to the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Ministry of Defense of BiH.

In light of the urgency of the situation, Konaković questioned RS’s decision to seek help from neighboring Serbia instead of utilizing the resources of the BiH Armed Forces. He emphasized that the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina are equipped to provide support in such emergencies and called for prioritizing human lives and preventing further damage.

It is clear that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to facilitating communication between relevant institutions in times of crisis, but maintains a stance against actions that could delay or hinder critical assistance efforts. The need for efficient coordination and utilization of available resources is essential in addressing emergencies effectively.
