Kenyan trucker fatally shot in South Sudan

A tragic incident in Cueibet County of South Sudan’s Lakes State claimed the life of a Kenyan truck driver, Elijah Waidupi. The driver was forced by an unknown gunman to divert his truck to a nearby bush where he was shot and killed inside the vehicle. The Lakes State Police Spokesperson, Maj Elijah Mabor Makuac, confirmed the incident and mentioned that investigations are ongoing.

The incident took place at a location called Ajok in Abiriu Payam around 8pm on Sunday. The body of the driver was initially taken to Rumbek and later transferred to Juba. The return of road ambushes has struck fear in the region, with civil society activist Daniel Laat Kon emphasizing the need for the state government to bring the perpetrators to justice to prevent further violence.

Ensuring the safety of the road from Bahr el-Ghazal to Equatoria is crucial to maintaining peace and security in the area. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the potential risks involved and the importance of swift action against criminal activities.
