July 15, 2016, marked a treacherous coup attempt in Turkey that aimed to overthrow the democratically elected government led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The failed coup orchestrated by the Fetullahist Terrorist Organization involved bombings of key state institutions and a coordinated effort to assassinate the President.

The Turkish Armed Forces, National Police, and citizens united to defend democracy against the coup plotters, resulting in a historical victory on July 16. While FETO’s involvement in the coup attempt was confirmed, efforts for the extradition of their leader residing in the US faced challenges.

Turkey continues to combat FETO’s threat to national security and democracy, expecting support from allies. Despite media misrepresentations, Turkey remains committed to upholding democratic values and honoring the sacrifices made during the thwarted coup.

As Turkey strengthens its democratic institutions post-coup, the fight against terrorism persists to safeguard the nation’s future. The resilience displayed on July 15 stands as a testament to the unity and determination of the Turkish people.
