Exciting news for the construction industry as the Government announces the establishment of a new regulator, the Buildings Standards Regulatory Authority. With powers of inspection, enforcement, and a range of sanctions, this move aims to reduce building failures and defects, ultimately increasing public confidence in construction.
Under the Housing for All strategy, Minister for Housing Darragh O’Brien will seek Cabinet approval for the new regulator. The body will oversee the marketing and use of construction products, ensuring compliance and safety standards are met.
In addition, an interim Building Standards Agency will be established to speed up governance and management structure development while primary legislation is drafted.
Cabinet will also discuss recommendations for probate and conveyancing processes, aiming to set a national target of eight weeks for completion. This initiative is part of an effort to reduce costs, delays, and make housing stock available quicker.
Minister for Education Norma Foley will present a six-year strategy to improve educational outcomes for Traveller and Roma young people, aiming to increase completion rates and achievements in schools.
