After negotiations between Azerbaijan and Iran, the embassy has been reopened as announced by the Azerbaijani foreign ministry through News.Az. Measures are being taken to resume consular services at the new embassy building, with updates expected soon.
Iran, as the host country, has ensured security for the new embassy building as per diplomatic protection obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the ministry added.
The resumption of embassy operations is aimed at strengthening Azerbaijan-Iran relations, focusing on mutual respect, good neighborliness, and the implementation of bilateral agreements.
Last January, relations between Azerbaijan and Iran were tense after an attack on Azerbaijan’s embassy in Tehran led to its closure and staff evacuation. Initially, the attack was attributed to “personal and family-related problems” by Iranian investigators.
