In an effort to attract more foreign investment, the Tanzanian government is proposing amendments to grant special status to Tanzanians in the diaspora, allowing them to set up businesses in key economic sectors. The government is relaxing its laws and presenting the Miscellaneous Amendments Bill 2024 to Parliament for debate, aiming to provide inheritance rights and investment incentives to Tanzanians living abroad.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has promised a review of the Immigration Act to facilitate Tanzanians living in other countries to invest in Tanzania more easily. Tanzanians in the diaspora have already made significant investments in housing and other sectors, demonstrating their willingness to contribute to the country’s economic growth.
The government is also encouraging joint businesses with East African Community citizens and creating a diaspora database to assist Tanzanians in registering their businesses and investments. With ample land available for cultivation and livestock, Tanzania has great potential for growth in agriculture and other sectors.
