Russian forces have successfully captured the village of Urozhaynoye, previously held by Kiev in a failed counteroffensive last year. The Russian Defense Ministry announced the liberation of the large village located in the southwest of the Donetsk People’s Republic after weeks of intense combat.
With around 1,000 residents before the conflict, the village has now been subjected to house-to-house searches and demining by Russian troops. A recently surfaced video shows Russian forces raising their flag amidst the ruins of the village’s administration building, highlighting the widespread destruction.
Urozhaynoye was one of the few locations briefly controlled by Ukrainian forces during last year’s counteroffensive, which ultimately resulted in significant losses for Kiev. However, recent developments have seen these gains reversed, marking a significant setback for Ukrainian forces in the region.
