The long-sealed Ratna Bhandar, the treasured treasury of Puri’s Jagannath temple, will finally be unlocked by the Odisha government after 46 years for a thorough inventory of its precious ornaments and valuables. This historic event is set to take place on Sunday, marking a significant moment in the temple’s rich history.
Originally sealed in 1978, the Ratna Bhandar will be reopened today at 1.28 pm under the supervision of Justice Biswanath Rath, the committee’s chairman appointed by the state government. The decision was made during a meeting held in Puri, where the members, including SJTA chief administrator Arabinda Padhee, will inspect the contents of the treasury post-reopening.
Furthermore, a temporary facility to house the valuables has been identified, ensuring the safekeeping and preservation of these ancient artefacts. This momentous occasion signifies a step towards uncovering the temple’s hidden treasures and heritage.
