Hundreds of Israelis gathered in Rehovot, near Tel Aviv, urging for a hostage swap deal with Palestinian factions in Gaza. The protesters demanded the release of hostages and called for early elections to return power to the people. Despite efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US, no deal has been reached for the release of the remaining 120 hostages in Gaza.
Palestinian group Hamas insists on a deal that ends the war and results in a full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, while Israel seeks only temporary truces and aims to diminish the governance capabilities of the resistance group. US President Joe Biden proposed a truce plan involving the gradual release of Israeli hostages and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza, in defiance of a UN Security Council resolution, has led to over 38,000 Palestinians being killed and 88,000 injured, mostly women and children. The devastation has left Gaza in ruins with limited access to essentials like food and medicine, prompting accusations of genocide and a court order to halt military operations in certain areas.
