Israel Strikes Gaza, Killing Senior Hamas Commander in Humanitarian Zone

Israel’s military confirmed the death of Hamas Khan Younis brigade commander, Rafa Salama, in an airstrike on the al-Mawasi camp in Gaza, a safe humanitarian zone where hundreds of thousands sought shelter. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that Salama’s death significantly impacts Hamas’ military capabilities.

Salama, a close associate of Hamas’s armed wing leader, Mohammed Deif, was allegedly involved in planning the October 7 attack on Israel, resulting in many casualties. While the IDF claimed to have targeted both Deif and Salama, Hamas has not confirmed Salama’s death, asserting that Israel’s goal was to cover up a massacre.

The airstrike killed at least 92 people and wounded 300, with survivors expressing anger over the unexpected attack in a supposed safe area. The UN reported horrific scenes at Nasser Hospital, highlighting the dire consequences of the ongoing conflict in Gaza despite diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire.

Despite international mediation, the violence continues to escalate, raising concerns over the humanitarian crisis in the region.
