World leaders around the globe have condemned the suspected assassination attempt on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at an election rally in Pennsylvania. The shooting resulted in the death of two individuals and left two others critically wounded, including Trump himself.
Leaders from the West spoke out against political violence, with figures like the EU’s Josep Borrell and UK’s Keir Starmer denouncing such acts as unacceptable. Australia’s Anthony Albanese and Japan’s Fumio Kishida also emphasized the importance of preserving democracy in the face of violence.
Even leaders on the left, such as Brazil’s Lula da Silva and India’s Narendra Modi, condemned the shooting as a threat to democracy. Russia’s Dmitry Peskov and UN chief Antonio Guterres also expressed strong condemnation of the attack.
Moving forward, the investigation into the shooting has been launched, with the FBI treating it as a failed assassination attempt on Trump’s life. The perpetrator, a young man from Pennsylvania, was shot dead at the scene by snipers.
Despite the attempt on his life, Trump has been discharged from the hospital and is in good health, expressing gratitude to the US Secret Service for saving him.
