FSB thwarts plots targeting army officials, Admiral Kuznetsov.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that they foiled “terrorist attacks” targeting high-ranking Defense Ministry officials in Moscow and on the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier in northern Russia. A Russian citizen was arrested for sending bombs disguised as gifts to Defense Ministry division heads in Moscow. The suspect planned to detonate the explosives upon delivery.

The FSB released footage of the detainee and the gift packaging containing the explosives. They claimed the suspect, a man born in 1994, was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence. The FSB declared all organizers and accomplices, including foreign citizens, wanted for prosecution under Russian law.

The FSB also reported preventing an explosion on the Admiral Kuznetsov in Murmansk, allegedly planned by Ukrainian intelligence. The agency stated that a Russian serviceman onboard the cruiser was contacted by Ukrainian armed forces to carry out the attack for a reward. The serviceman reported the correspondence to authorities.

These claims by the FSB are yet to be independently verified, but they highlight the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
