Displaced families in Jebel Marra face hunger threat in Darfur

In Jebel Marra, Darfur, the civil authorities under the Sudan Liberation Movement by Abdelwahid El Nur (SLM-AW) have made a desperate plea to the UN for assistance. Nearly five million people in the region are facing severe hunger and are in need of urgent humanitarian aid.

The head of civil administration, Mujeeb Al-Rahman Al-Zubair, highlighted the dire conditions faced by displaced individuals in Jebel Marra. The ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces and Sudan Armed Forces has forced many to seek refuge in SLM-AW controlled areas, resulting in a total of five million displaced individuals.

While the movement has been able to provide some security and food to the displaced, the scale of the crisis surpasses their capacity. Al-Zubair called on the UN and its agencies to step in immediately to prevent further escalation of the situation.

He attributed the crisis to the oppressive policies of the Sudanese government, accusing them of fueling conflicts in marginalized regions. This urgent appeal underscores the critical need for international intervention to address the humanitarian crisis in Darfur.
