South Sudan Approves $78 Million Plan to Tackle Anticipated Flooding
South Sudan’s Council of Ministers has given the green light to a $78 million policy plan proposed by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to address the looming threat of flooding later this year. The plan, presented by Minister Albino Akol Atak, aims to enhance preparedness and response efforts for the anticipated disaster.
The government’s strategy involves assessing at-risk areas, relocating affected populations, and implementing conflict mitigation strategies. Measures such as mapping safe relocation sites, constructing dykes, and promoting community engagement are in place to minimize the impact of flooding and prevent loss of life and property.
With a history of devastating floods in recent years, South Sudan is taking proactive steps to mitigate the effects of natural disasters. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has already warned of potentially severe flooding in the upcoming months, prompting urgent action from the government.
