Kenya Police Watchdog Investigating Mutilated Bodies Found Near Police Station
Kenya is in shock after the discovery of nine bodies with visible marks of torture in an abandoned quarry near a police station in Mukuru, south of Nairobi. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is investigating any possible police involvement in the incident, which has raised concerns about the conduct of the Kenyan police.
With seven deceased females and two males found wrapped in bags with nylon ropes, the IPOA is calling for immediate forensic investigations to identify the bodies and determine the cause of death. The agency is also looking into allegations of police involvement in the unlawful arrests and abductions in the area.
Rights groups are demanding accountability for the deaths, urging a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The government is facing pressure to hold those responsible for the heinous crime accountable as the country grapples with the aftermath of the deadly protests sparked by proposed tax hikes.
