Air-conditioning, foreign holidays, eating out essential for Singaporeans: survey

Digital connectivity, air-conditioning, dining out, and foreign holidays are considered essential for Singaporeans, according to a recent survey conducted by the Singapore Management University and the Institute of Policy Studies.

The study, based on 4,000 participants, revealed that 64% of respondents viewed air-conditioning as a must-have, while 62% believed dining out at least once a month was necessary. Additionally, more than half of the participants felt that going on a Southeast Asian holiday every year was essential.

Smartphones were listed as a necessity by over 90% of the respondents, and 96% considered owning a home a basic essential in one of the world’s highest home-ownership rate countries.

With a new Prime Minister, Lawrence Wong, addressing rising living costs, an aging population, and inflation, upcoming elections are crucial. The survey also showed that a majority of Singaporeans expect government assistance in providing basic necessities and support in healthcare, childcare, and public transport.
