Leila Mezian Benjelloun, wife of Bank of Africa Group Chairman Othman Benjelloun, and President of the BMCE Foundation for Education and Training, passed away on Saturday July 13.
Trained as an ophthalmic surgeon, Leila Mezian Benjelloun was involved in the BMCE Foundation, working to provide schooling for children in rural areas, in particular by building and equipping schools.
She also created a museum bearing her name in Casablanca to give greater visibility to modern art and Moroccan works of art.
Leila Mezian Benjelloun won the “Mediterranean Women’s Prize” in 2022, awarded by the regional government of Andalusia, in partnership with the Seville-based Fondation Trois Cultures de la Méditerranée.
She was decorated in 2016 by King Mohammed VI with the Officer class Wissam Al Arch.
