Time is running out for President Joe Biden to broker a normalization deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia before the upcoming presidential election, according to congressional aides. The current demand from Saudi Arabia for Israel to agree to establish a future Palestinian state, coupled with the limited time left before the election, has closed the window for a potential deal.
The necessary hearings to approve the defense pact with Saudi Arabia cannot be held before the election, with just under four weeks left in the Senate session. Even if Biden loses the election, there may still be a possibility to finalize a deal between November and January, although it would be complex.
Ceasefire talks are ongoing, but progress has been hindered by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions. Despite this, there is still a glimmer of hope for a ceasefire deal and normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia, but time is of the essence.
