Altaf Bukhari calls for united protest against centre’s bid to empower L-G

Altaf Bukhari Appeals for Unity Against Centre’s Decision to Vest More Powers in J&K Lieutenant Governor

Srinagar: Apni Party chief Altaf Bukhari urged Jammu and Kashmir’s political parties to set aside their differences and join forces against the Centre’s move to grant additional powers to the Union Territory’s lieutenant governor.

The recent decision by the Centre gives the L-G of Jammu and Kashmir authority over crucial matters such as police, all-India services officers, appointments of law officers, and anti-corruption bureau issues.

Bukhari criticized the move, stating that it diminishes the state’s autonomy promised after the 2019 reorganization. He emphasized the need for a strong assembly and chief minister to address the region’s challenges effectively.

He called for political unity to safeguard Jammu and Kashmir’s future, emphasizing the importance of a united front against the Centre’s actions. Additionally, he appealed for the release of Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, highlighting the democratic mandate he received.
