CNN

Tragedy struck in central Nigeria as a school building collapsed during an exam, claiming the lives of 21 individuals in Jos. The incident, described as “avoidable” by local authorities, also left 30 people hospitalized.

Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency confirmed that students were among the deceased, without specifying the exact number. Approximately 120 individuals were initially trapped in the rubble.

In response, the Plateau State government has called the incident an “avoidable tragedy” due to the school’s weak structure and unsafe location. They have urged schools with similar safety concerns to cease operations.

This unfortunate event sheds light on the prevalence of building collapses in Nigeria resulting from inadequate construction standards and substandard materials.
