The U.S. Embassy and Colombian law enforcement have joined forces in launching a $12 million reward program to capture three leaders of the Tren de Aragua gang, known for their criminal activities across Latin America. U.S. Ambassador Francisco Palmieri and Colombian Police Chief William Salamanca announced the individual rewards for Giovanni San Vicente, Yohan José Romero, and Héctor Guerrero Flores.
Flores, who previously escaped from Venezuela’s Tocorón Penitentiary, had his associate Larry Amaury Álvarez arrested in Colombia, where they had expanded their criminal activities since 2018. This arrest marks significant progress in a campaign involving 79 coordinated arrests of Tren de Aragua members.
The gang’s operations in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, and the U.S. have raised concerns due to their involvement in extortion, drug trafficking, and migrant smuggling. Despite Venezuelan claims of dismantling the gang, the leaders still remain at large, posing a threat to regional security.
