Kwara State Governor and chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has expressed his support for the Supreme Court ruling affirming the autonomy of Local Governments as a positive step forward in governance. He emphasized the significance of this decision in bringing governance closer to the grassroots level.
AbdulRazaq highlighted the relief that this ruling brings to Governors in terms of devolving power to local governments and managing financial burden. He stressed the importance of local governments managing their affairs effectively, especially in the midst of challenges like implementing the upcoming minimum wage.
He discussed plans for the NGF to convene and address these issues comprehensively, including the recent submission of the minimum wage committee’s report. The final decision on the minimum wage figure rests with the President, who will present it to the National Assembly for further discussion.
