Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have agreed to enhance security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, where China’s military presence is increasing. They also announced the creation of an economic security framework to address concerns about China’s subsidies for key products.
Both leaders have planned high-level intergovernmental talks in Germany next year to tackle global and regional issues, following a successful dialogue in Tokyo earlier this year.
Kishida highlighted North Korea’s military ties with Russia, while Japan remains focused on the escalating tensions between China and Taiwan. The two countries are also strengthening their military ties with the implementation of the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement (ACSA).
The leaders discussed working together on a free and fair global trade order, as well as collaborating to secure supply chains for hydrogen, semiconductors, and critical mineral resources.
This partnership signifies a significant step towards enhancing security and economic cooperation between Japan and Germany in a time of increasing global challenges.
