Iran’s representative, Iravani, denounced the US at the UN Security Council for making baseless allegations about Iran providing arms to Yemen’s Ansarullah movement. Iravani accused the US of using the Security Council platform to cover up its own aggressive actions in Yemen and warned that these allegations could compromise the impartiality of UN experts.
Stephanie Sullivan, the US deputy envoy to the UN, claimed that Iran had supplied prohibited ballistic missile technology to Ansarullah, citing Iranian state-affiliated media to support her claims. Iravani criticized Sullivan for deviating from the agenda and accused the US of seeking to pressure UN experts into compromising their independence.
These accusations come amidst ongoing airstrikes by the US and UK against Yemen’s western provinces, supposedly in response to Sanaa’s actions against Israeli ships. Iravani’s letter to the Security Council shed light on the political motives behind these allegations and highlighted the need for impartial and non-politicized reports from UN experts.
