The Commission raised concerns about the X blue badge system’s availability with a premium subscription, deceiving users with the “Blue checkmark,” and lack of transparency on advertising.
Additionally, the Commission noted X’s failure to provide public data access to researchers, which is required under the Digital Services Act. European Commissioner Thierry Breton expressed disappointment at how X’s practices with BlueChecks have evolved over time, moving away from being trustworthy sources of information.
