Congress declares Jun 25 as Constitution Assassination Day

New Delhi: The Congress criticized the government’s decision to declare June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’, calling it a “hypocritical exercise” by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The move came after Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced the decision to observe June 25 as a day to remember those who suffered during the Emergency in 1975.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh condemned the decision, labeling it as a “headline grabbing exercise in hypocrisy” by the Prime Minister. Ramesh accused Modi of undermining the Constitution and its values through his actions.

A gazette notification issued by the Union Home Ministry highlighted the abuse of power during the Emergency and called on the people of India to uphold the principles of democracy. The government declared June 25 as ‘Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas’ to honor those who fought against the tyranny of the Emergency.
