Beijing’s top diplomat Wang Yi has strongly refuted “groundless” accusations made by NATO against China, particularly in relation to Russia’s war on Ukraine. Wang emphasized that China will never accept such claims, stating that China has always been a force for peace and stability in the international community.
In a phone call with his Dutch counterpart, Wang highlighted the differences in political systems and values between China and NATO countries, but urged against inciting confrontation. The NATO declaration accused China of supporting Russia’s defense industry and enabling Moscow’s actions in Ukraine, calling on China to cease all assistance to Russia’s war efforts.
Wang stressed the importance of dialogue, understanding, mutual trust, and avoiding strategic misjudgments in resolving conflicts. He called on NATO to respect China’s sovereignty and legitimate rights, while expressing willingness to maintain contact and conduct exchanges on a basis of mutual respect.
