The US Coast Guard, known for its maritime law enforcement, encountered four Chinese warships near the Aleutian Islands. The Chinese vessels claimed to be carrying out ‘freedom of navigation operations.’

The Coast Guard commander stated that the Chinese warships were operating in accordance with international norms. This incident occurred amidst joint naval drills between China and Russia in the Pacific.

NATO, in its post-summit communique, criticized China for its actions near the Aleutians. The tension between China and the US was further highlighted in discussions surrounding the ongoing Chinese-Belarusian joint drills.
