Sources in the Union government revealed a significant increase in funding for various development projects in Tamil Nadu over the past decade. The allocation for railways alone surged from an average of Rs 879 crore annually between 2009 and 2014 to a whopping Rs 6,331 crore in the 2024-25 budget.
This influx of funds has accelerated the progress of railway line construction, electrification, operation of new trains, station development, and enhanced passenger facilities across the state.
Moreover, the total length of highways in Tamil Nadu has seen a significant increase to 6,806 km from 4,985 km in 2014. Projects worth billions of rupees have been awarded and are currently under implementation to further enhance the state’s infrastructure.
The investment in national highways alone amounts to Rs 2 lakh crore, while significant sums have also been allocated for port development, fishery infrastructure, housing projects, and welfare schemes benefiting millions of residents in Tamil Nadu.
