Premier Alan Winde mentioned, “A state of disaster is obviously something we will look at, but we’re in the middle of this crisis. We have to first assess it, and we will do that as soon as we can.”
The call for a state of disaster was prompted by a letter from the ANC in the province, citing significant damage to homes, roads, and public infrastructure, necessitating urgent action.
The South African Weather Service upgraded the weather warning for Thursday, heightening concerns about disruptive rainfall.
The Education Department announced school closures in certain districts due to storm-related damage, with numerous schools requiring immediate attention.
