Taiwan’s defense ministry has observed a significant increase in Chinese military aircraft activity near the island, following reports of military drills involving an aircraft carrier conducted by Beijing in the surrounding waters. The ministry reported a record high of 66 Chinese military aircraft operating around Taiwan in the past 24 hours, with 56 of them crossing into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone. Additionally, seven Chinese navy vessels were detected operating around Taiwan.
China also reportedly conducted drills with the aircraft carrier Shandong, prompting Taiwan to closely monitor Chinese military movements around the island. This escalation comes amid ongoing tensions between China and Taiwan, with Beijing considering Taiwan a part of its territory. The recent surge in Chinese military activity is seen as a part of Beijing’s efforts to assert its claims over Taiwan and pressure the island amid political tensions.
