Torture and Abuse of Palestinian Lawyers by Israel
Recently released prisoners have shared testimonies of torture and abuse inside Israeli detention camps. According to the Commission for Detainees’ Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, at least 30 Palestinian lawyers, including two females, have been arrested by Israel since October 7.
Crackdown on Legal Professionals
Israeli authorities have historically targeted lawyers, but the situation has worsened, especially since the genocide case against Tel Aviv in the ICJ. Legal teams have faced obstructions in representing detainees, with restrictions in military courts affecting their work.
Call for Protection
The organizations highlighted enforced disappearances of Gaza detainees and emphasized the crucial role played by Palestinian lawyers during the conflict. They called for international support to protect legal teams as they perform their duties.
Ongoing Genocide
Amid the ongoing war and atrocity in Gaza, thousands of Palestinians have been killed or wounded, with many women and children affected. The conflict has led to a mass exodus and displacement, creating a humanitarian crisis.
