Mayibuye Mandela, the great grandson of Nelson Mandela, has called for a debate on the establishment of a youth parliament in South Africa. In a letter to the speaker of the National Assembly, he proposed funding the new institution by reallocating the budget from the women, youth, and persons with disabilities ministry.
Mandela believes that the current ministry does not fully address the needs of young South Africans and that a youth parliament would provide a platform for their voices to be heard in legislative processes. He urged parliament to consider his proposal seriously and facilitate a discussion on the matter.
In addition to his proposal, Mandela also expressed his disapproval of the government of national unity, emphasizing his determination to contribute to the betterment of the country. As a young activist, he sees it as his responsibility to shape the future of South Africa and ensure that the youth are properly represented and empowered.
