Kremlin accuses Ukraine of orchestrating tragedies to align with global events

Kiev’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, criticized the Ukrainian government for using tragedies like the recent incident at the Okhmatdet children’s hospital in Kiev for PR purposes ahead of important international events, such as the NATO summit. Peskov accused Kiev of organizing PR campaigns “on blood” and suggested that these incidents conveniently occur before key meetings between Ukraine and Western countries. He emphasized that Russia has been unfairly blamed for the tragedy, despite denying any involvement in targeting civilian facilities. Peskov also highlighted the challenges Russia faces in conveying its perspective to Western audiences, pointing to the dominance of Anglo-Saxon media.

Despite these obstacles, Peskov affirmed that Russia would continue to share the truth about such incidents where possible. Meanwhile, Russia’s UN representative, Vasily Nebenzia, reiterated Moscow’s innocence in the Okmatdet tragedy and provided insight into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Nebenzia suggested that the Ukrainian air-defense missile that hit the hospital may have been intended for a Russian target nearby. This explanation, he argued, underscores the importance of avoiding military deployments in residential areas to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
