Karnataka CM calls emergency meeting on July 12

Amidst the ongoing water dispute, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy D K Shivakumar have called for an urgent meeting to address the Cauvery Water Management Authority’s (CWMA) directive to release water to Tamil Nadu. Shivakumar stated the state’s water scarcity due to insufficient rainfall, expressing concerns over meeting the CWMA’s demands. The emergency meeting, with all Cauvery basin ministers in attendance, aims to discuss the situation.

During the recent CWMA meeting, Karnataka highlighted a 28.71% shortfall in water inflows to its reservoirs, emphasizing the need for more time before implementing the directive. On the other hand, Tamil Nadu disputed Karnataka’s claims, arguing that the state had received adequate inflows and accused it of withholding environmental flows.
