Israeli raid in Shejaiya, Gaza City yields over 60 bodies from rubble

Palestinian medics recovered more than 60 bodies from the rubble in the Shejaiya neighborhood of Gaza City after Israeli troops withdrew, according to the Civil Defense Agency. “Dozens of bodies are still trapped under the rubble,” spokesman Mahmoud Basal stated, highlighting the destruction of over 85% of residential buildings in the area. Shejaiya is now deemed uninhabitable due to the devastating aftermath.

The Israeli military’s two-week incursion left a trail of destruction in Shejaiya before declaring the end of their operation. Basal also reported around 50 people killed in an Israeli offensive in Tel al-Hawa, with many families trapped and rescuers unable to reach them due to ongoing attacks.

Despite a UN resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel’s continued offensive in Gaza since October 7, 2023, has drawn global condemnation. The conflict has claimed over 38,300 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children, and left nearly 88,300 others injured. With Gaza facing severe shortages of essential supplies amid a blockade, Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice.
