Study Urged on Suspected Volcanic Eruption in South Sudan
Eastern Equatoria State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore has called on scholars and geology experts to investigate the suspected volcanic eruption at Isuhak Boma, Hatire Payam of Ikotos County. This appeal comes after a heavy downpour and a suspected eruption on July 4 which resulted in the deaths of thousands of fish and the destruction of farms downstream.
During an inspection of the site, Governor Lojore expressed concern about the emerging hot springs and brownish water in Himuhuny stream at Sesere Village. He emphasized the need for government intervention and scientific investigation into the matter.
Local residents have witnessed significant changes in the area following the suspected eruption, with mass fish deaths reported in Hatire stream. In response, the Governor advised caution in farming near streams and assured assistance to affected populations.
The appeal for study and assistance was echoed by Delphina Tobiolo, a resident whose crops were destroyed, and the Hatire Payam Head Chief, Abraham Thomas Loboi. The situation has raised concerns among villagers and calls for urgent action.
