China criticized NATO on Thursday, accusing the alliance of prioritizing its security over others and warning against bringing “chaos” to Asia. This statement reflects China’s opposition to NATO’s efforts to strengthen ties with Asian countries such as Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines.
The rebuke from a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson came after NATO called China a “decisive enabler” of Russia’s war in Ukraine. China dismissed the accusation, insisting on a fair and objective stance on the Ukraine issue.
China’s refusal to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has strained its relations with the US and European allies. The increasing trade between China and Russia has also raised eyebrows, with NATO accusing China of supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Amid concerns over NATO’s expanding reach, China urged the alliance to refrain from interfering in internal affairs and creating turmoil in the Asia-Pacific region. The ongoing joint military drills with Belarus near NATO’s borders have added to the tensions between China, Russia, and the West.
As China strengthens its ties with Russia through organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the geopolitical landscape in Eurasia is shifting, with China and Russia aligning against Western influence.
Both China and Russia have coordinated their foreign policies to counter the West, with Russia increasingly reliant on China as a major buyer of its energy resources.
