Beijing’s top official on Hong Kong affairs acknowledged the efforts of the city’s environment bureau during a meeting with its chief in the capital. Emphasizing the importance of tasks that resonate with the people, Director Xia Baolong praised the bureau’s work. The meeting followed the shelving of a contentious waste-charging scheme after two decades of deliberation and delays.
Secretary Tse Chin-wan updated Xia on the bureau’s progress towards carbon neutrality, green initiatives, environmental protection, and more. Xia highlighted the potential for Hong Kong to collaborate with other Greater Bay Area cities on green energy and related industries.
