Arrest of Chinese national in Philippines heightens Pogo link concerns.

In recent developments in the Philippines, suspicions are growing regarding China’s sponsored programmes aimed at infiltrating local communities. The head of the political science and history department at Ateneo De Davao University, Ramon Beleno III, highlighted concerns over China’s attempts to control various sectors in the country, including the media and local governments.

Beleno also raised alarms about lax controls by authorities, pointing out the case of Limosnero, who attempted to apply for a Philippine passport. The investigation into the falsification of documents and identity of individuals like Alice Guo, a suspended mayor linked to illegal online gaming, further underscores the need for stricter monitoring.

The Pogo sector, notorious for crimes such as trafficking and prostitution, has led to heightened tensions between China and the Philippines. The government has imposed new visa controls for Chinese nationals and is cracking down on Pogo hubs to prevent further criminal activities.

With concerns over national security and territorial disputes, the Philippines is facing challenges in regulating foreign nationals’ activities within its borders, particularly those involved in illicit industries like online gaming.
