S. Sudan police seize 1,000 stolen cars from Sudan

South Sudanese authorities have cracked down on over 1,000 cars that illegally entered the country from Sudan. Since the conflict in Sudan, many vehicles made their way into South Sudan, particularly in border areas like Aweil, Abyei, Renk, and Raja. Major General Daniel Jastin emphasized the need for collaboration between both countries to address cross-border crimes, including human trafficking and money laundering, as outlined in a memorandum of understanding.

Recently, Sudanese traffic officers visited Juba to discuss the issue of stolen vehicles from Sudan. The police in Sudan have electronic records of cars stolen during the war, cautioning South Sudanese against purchasing illegally imported vehicles. The Sudanese embassy in Juba commended the South Sudanese police for seizing the stolen cars and preventing their registration without official permission.

Efforts to curb illegal vehicle importation have seen success, with 122 stolen cars recovered in Renk and many more in Aweil. The directive from South Sudan authorities prohibiting the registration of Sudanese cars without authorization aims to deter further illegal activities.
