Oil workers urge Tinubu to back Dangote refinery, probe IOCs.

The Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria have called on President Bola Tinubu to support the Dangote refinery and investigate claims of sabotage by international oil companies. In a joint letter, the unions expressed concern over alleged actions by the IOCs to hinder the success of the refinery, such as denying crude oil supply and inflating market prices.

Highlighting the importance of the Dangote refinery to Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth, the unions urged the government to set up an independent panel to investigate the allegations comprehensively. They emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in handling the situation and called for decisive legal action if the allegations were substantiated.

The $20bn Dangote refinery in Lekki, Lagos State, is set to revolutionize the petroleum industry by reducing the country’s dependence on imported refined products. However, challenges with crude supply from IOCs have raised concerns about the refinery’s operations and cost efficiency.
