Norway has announced that it will be donating six F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine amidst NATO leaders attending a summit in Washington. This aid comes as part of a larger effort to support Ukraine in defending itself against Russia’s invasion in February 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has been urging NATO to provide more weapons, funding, and security guarantees in an effort to change the course of the war. The Norwegian Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Stoere, stated that the deliveries of the F-16s are scheduled to begin in 2024.
Despite these efforts, a senior NATO official noted that Ukraine still lacks the necessary resources to launch major offensive operations on its own. The international community continues to navigate ways to provide support to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
