Northern leaders condemned by ACF for spike in out-of-school children.

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) highlighted the ongoing issue of out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria at the Kano State Education Recovery Conference. Chairman Bashir Dalhatu expressed concern over the neglect of education in the North, emphasizing the need for those in positions of power to address the situation rather than ignore it.

Dalhatu praised Kano State governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for declaring a state of emergency in the education system, acknowledging the dire state of classrooms and lack of basic education facilities. Yusuf shared his commitment to improving the education sector by allocating 30% of the budget to education in the 2024 fiscal year and investing in classroom rehabilitation and construction.

The conference aimed to reposition education in the region and restore hope in the sector, calling for collaboration from development partners and the Federal Government. By addressing the failing education system, Northern Nigeria can work towards creating a brighter future for its children.
